When we were visitng Laur this weekend, Kristin made a really big point of how different their dormlife is from our dormlife. I wasn't really bothered by the open friendliness of their dorm- life is much more sociable there, people are much more open to eachother. They often leave doors unlocked or open so anyone can visit or drop in at any time of day. Kristin found this outright weird- she really likes the idea of having her very own very distinct idea of personal space. I, on the other hand, grew up in a house where there wasn't much privacy to begin with, so I don't miss much at all. I guess it helps knowing that whenever people in Laur's dorm really do need private personal time all they have to do is close and lock their doors- they have an escape if they really need it.
Coe's dorms... people all have thier little groups of other people they know. Many people aren't sociable, and don't bother to get to know many other people, and a lot of people don't hang out on weekends because most people go out drinking.
Anyway, I guess my point is I don't really care where I live. Coe's campus is different, and it's very easy for people who want to be isolated to be isolated. But I don't want to come back next year anyway. I just wish Kristin's down mood wouldn't affect me so much- I was actually smiling earlier today.
